MacEóin-Ramsay Pipe Band is a Grade 4 adult competitive pipe band based in the Ottawa area of Ontario.

History

Pipe Major David Clyde, a local piping instructor originally from Northern Ireland, founded the band in 1981. After nearly two decades of inactivity, the band was re-established in 2022 in preparation for the 2023 competitive season. Pipe Major Kris Bawden, a former pupil of Clyde, helped bring the band back with alumnus Matt McBain.

The band’s tartan was designed by David Clyde and Gordon Kirkbright to honour an Ulster-Scots heritage.

Rehearsals and community

The band rehearses on Monday evenings at the Royal Canadian Legion in Kanata. Interested pipers and drummers can contact the band through its Facebook page for rehearsal and membership details.

Alongside Highland Games competitions, the band participates in community performances. Its activities include a partnership with Captain A. Roy Brown Legion Branch 192 in Carleton Place for “The Pipes are Calling” series celebrating the Royal Canadian Legion’s centenary.
